School and District Happenings

Any 8th grade parent who received a Delaware School Choice invitation (including those planning to attend Conrad next year) must accept the choice invitation by March 17, 2017.

COURSE SELECTION

Grade level assemblies were held the week of February 27th to go over the course selection process. Students and parents should go into HAC between March 3rd and 17th to make course selections. Teachers have already put in their recommendations. We encourage you to align your child’s selections with teacher recommendations in order to ensure their success. Counselors will be meeting with students individually the last two weeks of March to answer questions and finalize selections. Students will not be permitted to change their selections after May 1.

March is National Athletic Training Month!

Athletic Trainers specialize in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of orthopedic injuries. They are also leaders in concussion recognition and management. They work with doctors, school nurses, coaches, and parents to educate athletes on the prevention of injury and re-injury in order to reduce rehabilitation and other healthcare costs. They are a vital part of an athlete’s healthcare team. Here at Conrad students in the Physical Therapy pathway study many of these things.

Support Conrad softball

Come out to support our Conrad softball program at Buffalo Wild Wings on Wednesday, March 8th! Dine in or take out. See any high school softball player for a flyer, or stop by room 314 to pick one up. See you there!

Prom Tickets

Prom tickets are on sale now! You can purchase prom tickets at lunch or see Mrs. Blohm. The event is for all junior and seniors. The junior class will host the prom at the DuPont Country Club on May 5th. Tickets cost $85 until the end of March. April 1st the tickets go to $90. You can get dance guest forms outside Mr. Vincent’s door. Buy them early! Last day to purchase tickets is Thursday. April 13th!

Formal Wear

Matthew’s Formal Wear will be providing Conrad students with our in school measuring again this year. They will be in the cafeteria to take tuxedo measurements for those students that are attending the prom. Our prices start at$49.99!! This is for a complete tuxedo, coat, pants shirt, vest, tie, studs and cufflinks. They will have many samples of tuxedos and accessories, including trim fit tuxedos and trousers. They deliver the tuxes to school the week of the prom and pick them up at the after prom for your convenience! They will be taking orders starting at 10:30 am, and staying until end of the lunch periods. They will be there on Monday April 3rd and Tuesday April 4th. Tuxes will be delivered on Wednesday May 3rd. The tuxes will be collected at the after prom. They require a $40.00 deposit when ordering, or a payment made directly to our store. They accept checks, cash or credit cards as forms of payment. Please feel free to visit the store and/ or go on line to view some of our selections and get an idea of tux styles-www.matthewsformalwear.com. They will still deliver and pick up if you choose to place your order in the store. Information will be distributed at school during March. The 8th Grade Formal

Tuesday 2/21 – The 8th Grade Formal planning committee will be meeting onTuesday 2/21 at 7pm at the Panera on Kirkwood Highway. Please join us as we begin the process of planning for the event which will take place on May 12, 2017.

Conrad HOSA News

Conrad’s Rare Disease team of Juniors Caitlyn Dill and Rickey Howell are preparing for their competition presentation at AI DuPont Hospital on Rare Disease Day, February 28th. They have researched Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD), spoken with researchers and families of children with this disease and will present their information to a team of Biomedical Researchers and other health professionals from the hospital in the morning with an open showcase after. This day is open to the public so stop by between 11:30 and 1:30 to see all of the displays by HOSA teams from throughout the state. Caitlyn and Rickey are also fundraising for Nemours Rare Disease Research. Please support their fundraising page by going to www.nemours.org/rarediseaseday and contributing to the Conrad HOSA Team page (team pages can be found through the link on the right side of the page). Thank you for your support!

The Community Awareness team of Ashlee Maney, Julie Munley, and Emily Hersch are selling “Conrad Cares” t-shirts to spread awareness about skin cancer. All proceeds will go to the Skin Cancer Foundation. Shirts are $15 and can be ordered through February 24th.

HOSA will hold a fundraiser at Chipotle on Wednesday, March 1st from 2-9pm. Show a flier (paper or electronic) or mention Conrad HOSA and the group will earn 50% of the sales. All funds support HOSA competition preparations. 56 students are now preparing for the State Leadership Conference in March and hoping to advance to the International Leadership Conference in Orlando this June. Thank you for supporting our students.

Blue-Gold Club

The Blue-Gold Club will be selling #ChangingLives bracelets for $2 at lunches 2/23-2/28. Students who purchase a bracelet can wear it to dress down on National Spread the Word to End the Word Day on Wednesday, March 1st. Proceeds support Special Olympics Delaware. All students are invited to sign the Pledge Banner pledging to show respect to EVERYONE.

Come out to the Blue Rocks fireworks game with the Blue-Gold Club and our Buddies on Friday, April 7th. Tickets are $10 and all orders are due by Friday, March 3rd.

Next PTO meeting will be Thursday, March 9th @ 7:00 pm in the Library. Our Staff presenter will be Ms. Kate Varga – Social Studies Teacher and Youth in Government Advisor.

Conrad’s High School Drama

This year, Conrad’s High School Drama Production will be the musical “Little Shop of Horrors.” Shows are on Friday, February 24th, Friday, March 3rd (B+ Night), andSaturday, March 4th. Come see our Freshman through Senior’s rendition of the hit 80’s cult classic in which a flower shop hopeless romantic, Seymour (played by Senior Jimmy Hudson), opposite his love interest, Audrey (portrayed by Sophomore Sarah Schoen, as he has to decide should he go down the road of unthinkable things to save the flower shop and save Audrey from her current boyfriend, a egotistical psychopath dentist, Orin (played by Senior Billy Knotts). Come see how a strange and interesting plant goes from being a tiny, cute little bud, into a terrifying monster that it truly is (Voice of the Plant by Senior Shaun Dukes). Tickets are $10 and are only purchased at the door. Concessions will be sold prior to the show, as well as during intermission and at the conclusion of the show. Our cast of about 40 students are ready to put on quite possibly the best show we’ve done here at Conrad. It is sure to have you laughing from beginning to end. It is definitely worth putting on your calendars, and if you come on March 3rd, a portion of your ticket cost will help support the B+ Foundation. School District College Fair

Red Clay Consolidated School District College Fair- By their junior year of high school, at the latest, students must start the college application process. Let us help by introducing you to counselors from regional colleges and universities! FREE and open to the public! You are invited to the 8th Annual Red Clay College Fair at John Dickinson High School on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The fair is intended to assist families in the process of applying for college and offers admissions counselors from regional colleges and universities. During the event, counselors will provide presentations on financial aid, scholarships, the College Board SAT, and the college application process. For more information call 302-552-3700

Conrad HOSA

Do you or a loved one have diabetes? Conrad HOSA is offering a FREE Diabetes Management course at the Western YMCA for all YMCA members. The course will meet on Thursday evenings from 6-8:30 in the Youth Development Center from February 9th – March 16th. Parent/Teacher Conferences

Report cards will be distributed to students on February 9th.   Conrad will hold Winter Parent/Teacher Conferences on February 13, 2017 from 2:45-6:15.  Parents are encouraged to stop in the school during that window to discuss the progress of their students with the teaching staff.  This includes a walk-in model for middle school parents as well.  Please come any time during the window to discuss your child’s progress.

Middle School Dance February 3rd 2017

The Middle School Winter Dance will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017 from 7-9 in the gym. Volunteers are still needed to sell tickets during lunch, donate snacks and water and volunteer at the dance. To help out, please sign up here.
